Come join BAWWA and tour the East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) Orinda Water Treatment Plant (WTP). Built in 1935, the Orinda WTP is the heart of the EBMUD water distribution system, delivering water to more than 800,000 customers every day, including customers in the City of Orinda. EBMUD is currently upgrading and replacing existing facilities and constructing new ones through the Orinda WTP Disinfection Improvements Project. The project will provide reliable water treatment infrastructure that meets long-term operational needs and will continue to meet drinking water and environmental regulations to achieve EBMUD’s internal long-term water quality goals.
Tour details are as follow:
Tour Size: Limited to 40 people.
Time: Arrive by 2:45 pm to check in. The tour begins promptly at 3:00 pm and will conclude at 4:45 pm.
Attire: All attendees are required to bring full PPE. This is an active construction worksite that requires a hard hat, safety glasses, safety vest, gloves, and safety shoes.
Parking/Carpooling: Parking at the WTP is limited, so carpooling is strongly encouraged. Parking instructions will be emailed a week prior to the event.
Registration: RSVP by Thursday, May 30th. Tour spots will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.
GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING & DINNER
Following the tour of the Orinda WTP, make your way to the Fourth Bore Tap Room & Grill for our social hour and no-host bar starting at 5:00 pm. A buffet dinner will be served at 6:00 pm followed by a guest speaker.

Guest Speaker: EBMUD Staff
Following dinner, EBMUD staff will be providing an update on the Orinda WTP Disinfection Improvements Project. The project includes demolition of an existing maintenance building and construction of a new disinfection facility comprised of a new above-ground two-story maintenance and UV electrical (MAUVE) building with a below-grade UV structure and a below-grade chlorine contact basin (CCB), two electrical buildings, a standby generator, pipelines and vaults, and other supporting facilities.
