City of Martinez Water Treatment Plant Tour and General Meeting

Come join BAWWA and tour the City of Martinez Water Treatment Plant. The Martinez Water Treatment Plant is a conventional water treatment plant that treats surface water from the Delta, sent through the Contra Costa Canal System.

The City of Martinez Water Treatment Plant serves mostly the City of Martinez’s 30,000 customers and has a peak flow of 15 MGD, but a sustained flow of about 10 MGD. The facility was built in 1948, and underwent several major upgrades over the years, with installation of an ozone system in 1990, to battle taste and odor compounds in the source water, and most recently a seismic upgrade in 2012.

Following the tour of the City of Martinez Water Treatment Plant, come join us for dinner at Zio Fraedo’s. Attendees areinvited to enjoy a social hour and no-host bar starting at 5:00 pm. Buffet dinner willbe served at 6:00 pm, followed by:

BAWWA General Meeting and Special Guest Speaker Robert Janowski.

Robert (Bob), is a SWRCB DDW T5/D3 licensed operator and directs, and oversees the operation of the water treatment plants, pump stations, storage tanks, and transmission facilities for the City of Napa. He is the Vice-Chair for the Operators Division of the CA-NV AWWA section. Bob will discuss the response and recovery for operations after two major potable water system emergencies, most notably from the 2014 South Napa Earthquake and the 2017 Atlas Peak fire.


Tour Size/Spots: Two tours of approximately 60 minutes, limited to 30 people each.

Times: For the 3:00 pm tour, arrive by 2:45 pm to begin check-in. Tour will start promptly.
For the 4:15 pm tour, arrive by 4:00 pm to begin check-in. Tour will start promptly.

Clothing Requirements: Comfortable walking shoes, no open toe shoes.

Parking: Parking is available at the facility, but carpooling is encouraged.

Registration: RSVP by March 21, 2018. Tour spots will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.
