TOUR: Upper San Leandro Water Treatment Plant (EBMUD)
Time: 3:00 – 4:00 PM
Location: 7700 Greenly Drive, Oakland, CA

Come join BAWWA and tour the East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) Upper San Leandro Water Treatment Plant (USL WTP) with the treatment plant in service. The USL WTP is one of six water treatment plants that supply water to the EBMUD water distribution system. EBMUD provides drinking water to 1.4 million customers and when in service, USL WTP serves the southern part of the service area, including Oakland, Alameda, San Lorenzo, San Leandro, Castro Valley, and Hayward. Originally built in 1927 with six filters, the plant was upgraded to ten filters in 1961 to serve growing demands, and again in 1991 to improve treatment technology and quality. An upgraded LOX-ozone system was installed in 2018 to further improve the disinfection and taste-and-odor treatment capabilities. The plant operates seasonally during the warm weather months to meet the higher demands, and also provides support throughout the year for testing and facility maintenance needs.

Raw water is drawn to the treatment plant from the Upper San Leandro Reservoir located in Castro Valley via a tunnel through the Oakland Hills. USL Reservoir is supplied by runoff from the local watershed and also sometimes by diversion from the Mokelumne Aqueducts. The plant is a conventional water treatment plant and can treat up to 60 million gallons per day.

BAWWA Annual Water For People Auction

WFP Photo.jpg

Water For People is a nonprofit that works with people in developing countries to improve their access to safe drinking water and sanitation. Around the world, 783 million people do not have access to safe drinking water, and more than 2.5 billion people lack adequate sanitation facilities. Water For People is working to change those statistics. In 2011, Water For People launched its daring “Everyone, Forever” initiative aimed at making real, sustainable change in the communities where the organization works.

BAWWA has been increasingly successful in raising money for WFP in our annual auction, and having a great time while doing it. We hope to continue the trend this year!

Money Raised from Previous BAWWA Auction Events:

  • 2015 - $2,670

  • 2016 - $2,335

  • 2017 - $3,505

  • 2018 - $2,475

  • 2019 – up to you!

A successful auction depends on having exciting auction items!

We are looking for more items to be donated by our BAWWA community! Popular items include food baskets, wine, power tools, sports paraphernalia, and electronics. If you have any items you’d like to donate and need help coordinating delivery, please contact:
